WISALTS group formed in Dowerin

(1978) WISALTS group formed in Dowerin. The Countryman, 24 August 1978. p. 44 [Publication] [Special Collections]

The salt problem in and around Dowerin is so great that some farmers are losing up to 12 per cent of their land to encroachment a year. A branch of WISALTS was formed at Dowerin a fortnight ago at a meeting attended by 25 local farmers. Arthur Borgward was elected as President and Graham Green was elected as secretary/treasurer. Mr Borgward spoke at the meeting in the Dowerin Lesser Hall, saying that the price paid to put the banks in was small compared to the losses incurred through salt encroachment, he also said that it was a last resort for many farmers in the district who were losing acres of land every year.
