Letter to the editor - 'Desert' areas

Moore, I.M. (1978) Letter to the editor - 'Desert' areas. The West Australian, 28 April 1978. [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

Letter to the editor by Ian McK. Moore, South Perth, Western Australia.

Mr Moore comments that the National Country Party's espoused concern for the environmental consequences of bauxite mining being misplaced. He says the miners are not only aware of their responsibilities in this regard but have the inclination and are developing technology to rehabilitate small areas of land in which they operate. Mr Moore also states that the real villains in the desecration of our State ironically are the ones from whom the National Country Party derives much of its support - the farmers who have reduced vast tracts of once fertile land into a barren, saline desert.
