Talks on land clearing

Gill, I. (1979) Talks on land clearing. Western Farmer and Grazier, 28 June 1979. [Publication] [Special Collections]

The Farmers Union will meet Premier Sir Charles Court on Tuesday to discuss the controversial clearing bans issue. Farmers in the affected south west catchments are lying low on illegal clearing until the outcome of the meeting is known. Pressure has been applied by the Public Works Department to give details of those farmers already clearing their land in defiance of the legislation. Farmers Union secretary Dick Garget said that the union would continue advising farmers not to break the law, even if the meeting with the Premier was unsatisfactory.
