Land clearing

(1980) Land clearing. Western Farmer and Grazier, 24 January 1980. [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

Perillup farmer Bert Henderson has announce his intentions to stand up and be counted for his beliefs on land conservation and the state government's land clearing controls. Mr Henderson has commenced a large-scale land restoration programme (at his own expense) to restore land ruined by waterlogging and salinity. He is independent enough to have his own convictions (based on experience) and strong enough to stand by them. He is the sort of person who survived the hardships of developing the land for agriculture and the sort of person that needs to be encouraged to continue to manage the land conscientiously. But instead, the authorities appear to be more concerned with making an example of him for clearing a small area of land against the government's wishes. It will be interesting to see what happens after the February 23 elections.
