Banks trial expanded

Gill, I. (1979) Banks trial expanded. Western Farmer and Grazier, 29 November 1979. [Publication] [Special Collections]

The state government has decided to end the Batalling Creek trial of Harry Whittington's interceptor banks. Last Friday about 40 WISALTS members moved into the area to open up their own full-scale working test of the system. In just over three days, they converted the 10-hectare pilot scheme into a banks and drains system controlling water run-off from about 1,700 hectares of the catchment. WISALTS has nominated a period of five years to show positive proof of the value of the Whittington system in controlling salinity. The expanded trial now extends over the properties of Leslie Craig and Max Ewan and consists of about $12,000 worth of banks.
