A response to a letter to the editor by Harry Whittington published on 12 November 1979 where he criticised the Holmes report on the interceptor bank system for salinity control. The authors state they are professional soil scientists and wish to record their support for Professor Holmes' conclusions and add their criticism of Mr Whittington's arguments which reveal fundamental misunderstandings.
