Salt: criticism no cure

Gill, I. (1979) Salt: criticism no cure. Western Farmer and Grazier, 29 November 1979. p. 13 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

Flinders University Professor John Holmes tabled a report in state Parliament last month calling for an end to the Batalling Creek trial of the Whittington interceptor drains. Professor Holmes' report advocated deep drainage as a solution to the salt problem, with the only alternative being an indirect approach using strategic landscaping. He supported the idea of having an international symposium on salinity an of approaching the Victorian government for costing and design of its widely practised tile drainage.
