Govt decides to remove EPA chief

Barker, E.A. (1980) Govt decides to remove EPA chief. The West Australian, 12 November 1980. p. 1 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

The West Australian Government confirms that it plans to remove Colin Porter from the Environmental Protection Authority. Mr Porter has been the Director of Department of Conservation and Environment and Chairman of the Environmental Protection Authority since March 1978. The Government gave notice of legislation under which the director will no longer be the chairman or member of the EPA. Leader of the Opposition, Ron Davies, said that the decision on Mr Porter was a deliberate attempt to weaken the EPA, and the director's role has been changed because the EPA was not telling the Government what it wanted to hear. Mr Porter would continue as Director of the Department of Conservation and Environment.
