Deeper study of salinity urged

(1980) Deeper study of salinity urged. The West Australian, 13 November 1980. [Publication] [Special Collections]

Dr R. H. Sedgley of the Agronomy Department of the University of Western Australia, addressed a Land and Stream Salinity held at Murdoch University yesterday speaking about research he has carried out with Dr R. Smith, of the Civil Engineering Department at University of Western Australia and Dr D. Tennant of the Agronomy Department at the University of Western Australia. Dr Sedgley stated that a more serious approach to control salinity should include modifying water budgets in recharge areas by replacing subterranean clover pasture leys with a lupin phase; replacing subterranean clover with cereal-legume mixtures and developing better adapted and higher yielding wheat cultivars for closer rotations and a reduction of the period under annual pasture in higher rainfall areas.
