Shires take steps to halt salt problem

(1980) Shires take steps to halt salt problem. The Merredin Advertiser, 30 January 1980. 1, 18 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

A committee has been formed with representatives from the Shires of Bruce Rock, Corrigin, Kondinin and Quairading to take positive steps to alleviate salt encroachment problems. They requested the Public Works Department and the Department of Agriculture to investigate a pilot area from Lake Kondinin to Lake Kurrenkutten in the Corrigan Shire. Farms adjacent to the drainage lines have lost large areas of once valuable cropping land to salt. The committee feels strongly that the slow water movement down the drainage lines and periodic flooding is making the salt problem worse.
