Land ban farmer to fight his case

Collis, B. (1980) Land ban farmer to fight his case. Western Farmer and Grazier, 24 January 1980. [Publication] [Special Collections]

Perillup farmer Bert Henderson is preparing for a fight against the state government, being one of the first farmers charged with unlicensed land clearing. Mr Henderson cleared a section of his property for his large-scale land restoration programme using interceptor banks to improve drainage, and eventually a tree planting programme in low lying areas. The Forest Department asked to see the cleared land and Mr Henderson refused, stating he was more than capable of planting trees where and when they were most needed, not under direction of anyone else.
