(1981) Banks save roads. The Wheatbelt Mercury, 26 November 1981. p. 8 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

The protection of Shire roads by WISALTS interceptor banks in the recent damaging storms was noted at the Merredin Shire Council's November meeting. Councillor John Maughan said that is some cases the banks protected roads and Shire construction, he noted that the banks acted as a holding unit for water and they held the strong water incredibly well. Shire President, Councillor Joe Crook endorsed Cr Maughan's remarks about the value of the interceptor banks and the damage to Shire roads would have been much worse in some instances.
