Some land is not for cropping

(1982) Some land is not for cropping. The Queensland Graingrower, 27 January 1982. pp. 6-7 [Publication] [Special Collections]

A Government appointed committee has been set up to look at the State's soil erosion and conservation problems. Department of Primary Industry officers have been placed to look after a quarter of the State's (Queensland) cultivated land around Wandoan, Miles and Goondiwindi, with the South-west region having some 614,000 hectares affected by erosion. The area of cultivation requiring protection is predicted to grow to 811,000 hectares by 1990. Advisory Group Committees in several areas have been identifying areas of erosion and talking about the need for more contour banks for years, confronting a wall of bureaucracy that can be frustrating.
