Letter to the editor - Interceptor System the answer to salt

Whittington, H.S. (1981) Letter to the editor - Interceptor System the answer to salt. Western Farmer and Grazier, 7 May 1981. p. 4 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Letter to the editor by Harry Whittington.

A response to a previous article "Banks not answer to stream salinity" by Nigel Higgs that was a condensed version of the final report by the Public Works Department of the 'Investigation into the effect of the Whittington Interceptor System on stream salinity'. Mr Whittington states that interceptor banks may reduce stream salinity by 20 per cent, but this was not enough to convince government researchers who favour methods of minimising deep ground water discharge rather than the interceptor banks system of diverting shallow seepage water to control stream salinity. He asks the question: what alternative solutions can the government researchers bring forward, which has been tested and proved, and can reduce the salinity level by more than 20 per cent?
