Device probes soils salinity

(1981) Device probes soils salinity. Western Farmer and Grazier, 21 May 1981. [Publication] [Special Collections]

Science and Technology Minister David Thompson announced a mineral exploration device, developed by CSIRO, will soon be in use throughout Australia. The device measures the electrical conductivity of the ground through a soil salinity meter and will give early warning of salinity hazards. Being portable and easy to operate will mean broad-scale regional surveys of soil salinity can now be carried out.
