Warning on levees along Gascoyne
(1981) Warning on levees along Gascoyne. The West Australian, 26 May 1981. [Publication] [Special Collections]
Summary
Minister for Water Resources, Andrew Mensaros appealed to Carnarvon property-owners to construct their own levees along the Gascoyne River to aggravate any flood hazard, but recommended they first obtain approval from the Public Works Department. Following recommendations from consulting engineers, work would commence this week on reconstruction of an emergency embankment at the inlet to Sheridan's Gully on the north bank of the Gascoyne River. The engineer's recommendations included the development of a floodplain management strategy for the river, emphasising the need for a coordinated system and for traditional breakout points in major floods.
