Summary
The 1979 Salt Land Survey is to be released next week in the Agriculture Department's Journal of Agriculture. It is the first salt land survey since 1974. The report by resource management researcher Chris Henschke, indicates that 1.75 per cent of the state's cleared land is salt-affected and represents a total 173 per cent growth since 1974. The figures are based on farmers' estimates and show a significant variation among shires in the agricultural areas. The worst hit shires are Tammin, Wongan-Ballidu and Mullewa.
