Banks not answer to stream salinity

Higgs,, N. (1981) Banks not answer to stream salinity. Western Farmer and Grazier, 30 April 1981. p. 7 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

The Public Works Department's engineering division conducted an investigation into the WISALTS trial site at Batalling Creek, publishing a report rejecting WISALTS methods. The government researchers favour methods of minimising deep ground water discharge rather than the interceptor banks system of diverting shallow seepage water to control stream salinity build up. The three year trial at Batalling Creek has been the subject of two previous reports, one of these by Professor John Holmes of Flinders University who recommended in 1979 that the WISALTS trial be disbanded.

This article includes a portrait of Professor Holmes.
