Summary
There is strong support among West Australian farmers for positive action on soil conservation, including the enforcement of the Soil Conservation Act. Director of Agriculture, Noel Fitzpatrick, and Commissioner of Soil Conservation, Graham Spencer met with representatives from 12 wheatbelt shires at Merredin to discuss increasing concerns about salt encroachment and soil erosion. An agreement was made to appoint a sub-committee representing the shires and a reaffirmation of their commitment to better soil conservation throughout the wheatbelt.
