Save-soil group formed
Bolt, C. (1981) Save-soil group formed. Western Farmer and Grazier, 26 February 1981. p. 6 [Publication] [Special Collections]
Summary
A steering committee set up at a meeting in Merredin will seek early talks with the Soil Conservation Commissioner, Graham Spencer to consider proposed administrative changes under the Soil Conservation Act. Eight eastern wheatbelt shire councils have moved to bring soil conservation projects under increased local government control. The committee would initially make recommendations to the state government and the Soil Conservation Commissioner, but if this proved to be ineffective they would seek full control in regulating salt reclamation in their areas.
