Letter to the editor - Tackling salinity

Stoneman, T.C. (1981) Letter to the editor - Tackling salinity. National Farmer (WA edition), 19 February 1981. [Publication] [Special Collections]

Letter to the editor by T.C. Stoneman, Principal soil research officer, Department of Agriculture, Western Australia,.

Addressing claims being made in a previous letter to the editor in the National Farmer about department trials being held in the same area as the WISALTS trial site on Dan Keast's property in Dangin.

Mr Stoneman says the department's records show that interceptor banks have had no effect on groundwater hydrology or soil salinity in their monitored trial located near the WISALTS trial site. The department tested prior to construction of interceptor banks and tested one year after installation. He also takes aim at what he calls extravagant claims of success in the WISALTS Batalling Creek trial, where data collected by the Public Works Department refutes these statements.
