A research programme is being put together by the CSIRO'S Floreat laboratories to help manage Perth's groundwater reserves. A big part of the approach will be spearheaded by the Division of Groundwater Research which was established nine months ago after a major overhaul of CSIRO water activities throughout Australia.

This article contains two photographs: damaged paper-bark trees in the Northern Territory; and a group of farmers in the South-west watching the construction of an interceptor bank.
