WISALTS column
(1983) WISALTS column. Elders Weekly, 22 September 1983. p. 5 [Publication] [Special Collections]
Summary
Discusses an article in the Weekend Australian (6-7 August 1983) regarding regulations for clearing bans which require landowners in South Australia to seek permission from their State Planning Commission prior to clearing native vegetation. The South Australian Minister for Environment and Planning introduced new regulations without any warning in May of this year, with statistics showing present clearing led to the Minister's actions. Local farmers in Western Australia support clearing controls rather than clearing bans to assist farmers to clear some areas and replant others to create windbreaks and combat salt scalds.
