Details a press conference given by prominent American soil scientist Dr Al Black, Director of the Northern Great Plains Research Centre in Mandan, North Dakota during his recent visit to Western Australia. Dr Black said, "It is important to separate the two kinds of salinity. The first is geological and has been present for years and years, the area is naturally alkaline, the second is man-caused." At the last WISALTS committee meeting at the end of April, president Lex Hardie paid tribute to the tremendous amount of time and effort that had been put into the arrangements for Dr Black's visit.
