WISALTS column - Question of tax

(1989) WISALTS column - Question of tax. Elders Weekly, 5 October 1989. p. 66 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

Discusses a recent newspaper article which misquoted the Western Australian Farmers' Federation (WAFF) senior vice president, Alex Campbell, about a proposed tax scheme to support conservation work. The WAFF suggested, for those farmers who did not earn enough to pay tax in one year, a tax credit for the next year they are eligible to pay tax. While WISALTS had not had the chance to properly discuss the proposal, they are firmly behind some kind of deductibility scheme to encourage farmers to embrace conservation activities. Additionally, tax deductions are easier to administer than the various levels and sources of government funding for conservation through grants, loans, or other schemes in place.
