Prices force farmers to look abroad

Ball, J. (1989) Prices force farmers to look abroad. The West Australian, 21 September 1989. p. 54 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Newspaper article by Jacki Ball.

Ian Hill, a Western Australian farmer, urges fellow farmers to consider avoiding farm machinery dealerships for new equipment and parts. The same (or similar enough) machinery could be imported at a lower cost, the high prices are attributed to the decline of Australian manufacturing for farm equipment. Spare parts are also a sore point, with local dealerships charging hundreds of dollars for relatively simple parts that can be sourced elsewhere for less than fifty dollars. Ian Hill asserts private imports as the only sure way to bring down Australian dealership prices to a reasonable level.
