New weapons in the salt war
I'ons, J. (1983) New weapons in the salt war. National Farmer, 21 April 1983. p. 25 [Publication] [Special Collections]
Summary
CSIRO scientists and Canadian researchers have come up with a gadget which makes it easy to detect soil salinity before it strikes. Salt risk areas can now be detected and farm management designed to prevent the damage before it occurs. CSIRO's Dr Baden Williams is at the forefront of the new development. The technique consists of sending an electric charge through the soil and measuring resistance to the current: where resistance is low, salt is usually present.
