WISALTS column - Waterlogging is biggest problem
(1989) WISALTS column - Waterlogging is biggest problem. Elders Weekly, 9 February 1989. p. 80 [Publication] [Special Collections]
Summary
Part of a speech made by David Wordsworth for the salinity committee, affirming that waterlogging is a precursor to the salinity crisis. The WISALTS Interceptor Bank System is a long term solution which also bring quick results; the banks restore water flow balance to the soil and as such, should be used as a first step to reducing waterlogging. Planting trees and perennials is an important step, but the WISALTS banks can help make that process tenable in the future.
