Recognising that land degradation cannot be blamed solely on poor farming techniques, many current issues stem from massive land clearing done decades ago under government order. Rick Farley, executive director of the National Farmers' Federation made statements echoing WISALTS' argument for more government funding to be set aside for farmers. Both parties agree there is a need to incentivise landcare activities, like installing interceptor banks, to ensure a widespread community response.
