WISALTS column - Department article on banks draws fire

(1990) WISALTS column - Department article on banks draws fire. Elders Weekly, 6 September 1990. p. 20 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

Refutes articles published in the 'Journal of Agriculture' claiming that WISALTS interceptor banks are ineffective at controlling groundwater and even worsen the salinity problems. The criticism of the analysis is that it applied findings from one WISALTS site to the interceptor bank system as a whole. Further, WISALTS President Pam McGregor insists the benefits of the system has been demonstrated in real farming, with landowners reporting an improvement of soil conditions. As leaders in the field, WISALTS conduct ongoing research and update their system design and installation practices.
