The Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) announced they would not be releasing any more land for farming. The decision was motivated by a proposal in the 'Towards Salinity' paper, which aimed to reduce the salination, acidification and erosion of land used for agriculture.

This article contains two photographs: Mr Barry Carbon, EPA chairman and Mr Peter Lee, President of the Western Australian Farmer's Federation.
