Summary
Newspaper article by J.S. Beard.
Describes the natural mechanisms for soil desalinisation in the Western Australian Wheatbelt and the ways in which modern farming have disrupted the natural flow. Mr Beard argues for government action to install a canal system of drainage through the Wheatbelt to reduce soil degradation and prevent the water table from rising further, he also provides several points of subsurface water and river flow data to support his argument.
