Salinity battle hots up

Fleay, B. (1999) Salinity battle hots up. The West Australian, 9 August 1999. p. 11 [Publication] [Special Collections]

Summary

Newspaper article by Brian Fleay.

Recounts the main conclusions presented at the Salinity Forum's On-Ground Solutions Conference held in July 1999. They reflect a paradigm shift from attempting to control the land to an approach of stewardship, strategies should aim to improved the overall health of the degraded land, not solely attempt to remove the salt. Government input is highlighted as a major roadblock as the economic investment required to save the land is vast and the returns would not be seen until at least the next generation.
