Gavin Drew, the 1998 RAS-Countryman Rural Achiever of the Year, calls for a greater collaboration between government funded science and farming efforts to combat salinity degradation in rural Western Australia. Mr Drew highlights several issues preventing a cohesive approach to landcare, chiefly the lack of a designated research body for agricultural research.

This article contains two photographs of Gavin Drew, one which depicts a congratulatory handshake with the Governor of Western Australia, Major General Michael Jeffery.
