Interview with Stanley Lance
Interview with Stanley Lance. [Sound recording] [Special Collections]
Summary
Interview with Stanley Lance by John Clements, recorded in London, England.
Stanley Lance recalls the various jobs he held before joining the BBC in 1933. He remembers keeping the birth of his son a secret because he had only been in the role for 12 months and was not game to ask for an early knock off that day.
Stanley explains some of the technology at the time, such as the steel tape used for recording. He created a device to edit this type of tape which was used for many years.
Stanley eventually became an engineer in charge (EIC) of a maintenance department. Under his stewardship it served as an ad hoc research department when the actual research and development department was depleted by the war efforts.
