Summary
Douglas James (Doug) Blythe interviewed by John Clements.
Doug Blythe talks about his life and family history.
Part 1 – Doug was born in Derby. He gives his family background, beginning with his great grandfather’s emigration from Scotland to Albany in 1833. He talks about the establishment of Mount House Station outside Derby.

Part 2 – Doug talks about his first droving trip for Mount House Station and general anecdotes about work on Fairfield Station.
Part 3 – Doug talks about Glenroy Station, an appendix to Mount House Station. Doug recalls the relationship between the station owners and the Aboriginal stockmen who worked for them. He recalls the impact of local customs on the station work, such as marriage relations causing feuds. Doug recalls his marriage to Rita Teakle in 1942.
Part 4 – Doug talks about the early days of his marriage to Rita. He discusses the introduction of freighting beef by air in 1949, marketing the beef trade and obtaining markets for beef.
