Summary

Surveyors Report on WISALTS Conservation System created by PJ (Peter) Kerin.

Comments: This is a very complex plan to serve the Tammin townsite along with restoration of degraded farming land adjacent to the town. The key to the whole plan are banks A, B, C, D, E and F. Those banks prevent surface and subsurface water from entering town and flowing along big drain in middle of town. At the end of bank (A) I have sighted a large dam capacity 30,000 to 50,000 cubic yards as supplementary supply for Tammin townsite. This plan however has the problem of crossing the road and railway line. Telecom was not evident, however expect there would be cable. Westrail culvert was quite adequate when account is taken of complimentary level work on catchment site. Public Works Department line could be negotiated with care. Main road is largest problem as new larger culvert is required. Also new culvert required between bank (E) and (F). The problem of crossing main road area would have to be negotiated in any event as there is a large shed of water from area north east of Abattoirs which is now running on northern side of railway line and eventually into town. The problems on west side of town could be somewhat be eased with work on south east side of town. Relatively shallow work in this area i.e. 1 metre deep would control most surface water and deeper static water would be controlled by first work south east of town. There are also some prime sites for water on western side of this area. Special care to be taken where main creek has leakage at point (2). I would recommend work south east of town and north of town to proceed very soon with cooperation of local soil conservation district. I would be available most times to expand this comprehensive scheme. Total cost including dam $80,000.
