Shashi Tharoor’s An Era of Darkness is a timely and welcome study that meticulously lays out the manipulative extraction in which the Raj engaged to make India’s GDP tumble from 23 percent to 3 percent after its plunder on the subcontinent concluded with a hasty exit.
