Formation of GeSe2-As2Se3-CdSe infrared glasses

Abstract

A series of glass samples from GeSe2-As2Se3-CdSe system were prepared to investigate the glass-forming region. Differential scanning calorimetry measurements were taken of the glass samples. Analysis and comparison of the form of crystallization peak and the temperature difference (ΔT) between crystallization temperature Tx and glass transition temperature Tg were made to determine the thermally stable glass composition zone in the glass-forming region. The results show that glass matrix with a higher GeSe2 content can accommodate more CdSe. A larger glass-forming region is obtained when the content of GeSe2 is higher than 20% (in mole). The glass components in this region are expected to be suitable for further crystallization treatment. Infrared transmission spectra indicate that these glass samples are suitable for optical transmission in the infrared range of 8-12 μm.
