Abstract

In many parts of the world coral reefs are an economically important part of the environment, both as a source of fish and as an attraction for tourists. Their proper management and preservation is, therefore, of great practical importance, and this demands a clear understanding of the very complex ecosystem involved. This article reviews the significance of the grazing of coral reef algae by a variety of herbivores, especially fish.
