Abstract
This chapter considers the responsibilities of institutions, citizens, workers, and consumers in response to the search by polluters for social licenses to operate via the subvention of museums. Boosterist museums bask in the glow of technological innovation, newness, and subvention, even as they lay claim to the long view of history, art, and objectivity. Arts activism points to a different way forward which involves environmental awareness and workers’ rights.
