Abstract
1. 1. The effect of juvenile hormone III and 20-hydroxyecdysone on in vitro DNA synthesis in the left colleterial gland of Periplaneta americana was compared. 2. 2. JH III reduced tritiated thymidine incorporation into the DNA of left colleterial glands obtained from females at stages 6 and 7 significantly (P < 0.05 and < 0.005 respectively), and slightly at stage 6 (2 > P > 0.05), whereas 20-hydroxyeedysone caused an apparent increased in tritiated thymidine incorporation into the DNA of stage 7 glands (P < 0.001). 3. 3. The effect of JH III was also demonstrated by labelling DNA with phosphorus-32.
