Abstract
The crystal structures of the two title compounds have been determined and compared. Thecrystallographic data correlate very well with an earlier contention that in solution the pyrrolidino-quinone (5) exhibits a greater contribution to its structure from the quadrupolar form (II) than does the piperidino-quinone (6). Both compounds crystallize in the triclinic space group Ρ Τ and have one centrosymmetric molecule per unit cell. The pyrrolidino-quinone unit cell dimensions are a =4,925(3), b =6,533(4), c~ 10,002(5) A, α = 90,8(2), β= 104,3(2), and y = 93,8(2)°, and those for the piperidino-quinone are a=8,437(5),£>=6,658(4), C- 6,839(4) A, a=99,6(2), β = 108,4(2), and γ = 86,7(2)°.
