Abstract
Application of ecologically sustainable development principles to mining in the Windimurra Vanadium project was discussed. The summary of a dissertation which explored the relationship between extractive mining and ecologically sustainable development (ESD) in Western Australia was also analyzed. The analysis of the Windimurra Vanadium Project utilises ESD issues identified in the mining, minerals and Sustainable Development Project Draft Action lan for Australia and the Australian Conservation Foundation 's Arid Lands Policy. It was observed that an associated off-shoot of the study, was to identify the potential for vanadium Australia to on-sell its calcine wastes, so that it could become the biggest recycling project in Western Australia.
