Abstract
In this article Mick Campion, Senior Lecturer in Distance Education and Patrick Guiton, Director of External Studies, both at Murdoch University, Western Australia, relate current changes in the arrangements for the provision of distance education in Australia to broader changes in Australian Higher Education policy. These broader changes are shown to be products of a specific version of the relationship of higher education to the national economy.
