Abstract
The HIV drug “abacavir” has been found to induce a dangerous allergic reaction in patients with the HLA-B*5701 gene.
The allergic reaction causes the immune system to attack the body in a way that is similar to organ transplant rejection.
The research has furthered development on a new way of screening drugs for their potential to cause allergic reactions, especially in relation to the HLA group of genes.
