Researchers are looking into installing smart meters in Western Australia, citing data that the energy use in the state is rising.

Smart meters send information about energy consumption electronically and in real-time to the provider, replacing the need for someone to physically read each meter.

However, despite a rise in energy costs, researchers believe that consumers are not well enough informed on their energy consumption.
