Abstract
Model calculations of low energy positron diffraction spectra show interference features below the emergence thresholds in the specularly reflected beam. This fine structure is shown to be particularly sensitive to the form of the effective potential which positrons experience in the vicinity of metal surfaces. Such spectra should be measurable with currently available apparatus, and their analysis could provide details of the way in which positrons interact with metal surfaces.
