Abstract
The objective of this study was to gain insight into the behaviour of the extractable and leachable heavy metals in compost and the effect that the addition of red mud or red mud - gypsum might have on reducing the mobility of heavy metals. The ultimate aim is to reduce the mobility of heavy metals such that the dispersion of the heavy metals through plant uptake and groundwater leaching is within acceptable levels with regard to public health.
