Abstract
Buffer-free pH-stat methods were applied to kinetic investigations of the iodate-iodide and bromate-iodide reactions in the pH range 3-4 yielding the rate laws v′ = k′0[H+]2[I -]2[IO3-] and v = k0 [H+]2[I-][BrO3-] + k 1[H+][I-][BrO3-]. In addition, for [I-] and [IO3-] of the order of 10-2M (M = mol dm-3) the rate of reaction was 4th order in [I-], 2nd order in [IO3-], and the order with respect to [H+] increased from 1st towards 3rd as [H+] decreased from 8 × 10-7 M to 4 × 10-8 M
